history of eslinger log cabin
The 1830s Eslinger Log Cabin was taken apart and moved to it’s current site in 1988.
Andrew and Idella Mott Eslinger were married in 1883. Their home could date to 1863. The cabin was built by John Eslinger, father of Andrew. Andrew and Idella had 13 children, raising 12 to adulthood. She served as a midwife to her neighbors. She and Andrew are buried in Reed Sugar Grove Cemetary. Andrew died in 1917 and Idella in 1948.
One of the last log cabins in the county, located about one-half mile west of the Kidley community in Brouilletts Creek township in northeast Edgar County, the cabin was badly deteriorating. Standing idle for some time, family members offered it to the Historical Society. In April of 1988, society members began dismantling the cabin.
The log storage shed was donated by the McConchie family and Merlin Parrish donated the outhouse.
